Chicago Urban Oasis

Brent was first approached in the spring of 2003 to design this 25' by 125' garden located in the City of Chicago. The garden lies between two 3-story homes which limit the exposure. A grove of 17 Contorted Eastern White Pines were carefully selected and placed so that they open or conceal the view beyond. Waves of Northern Sea Oats, Japanese maples, Nordmann fir and European beech complement the pine forest. The unusual cultivars of maple used contrast the other elements of the garden and act as the flowers of spring and fall. The natural curves of the paths, moss-clad boulders, and granite pavers provide grounding and help balance the tall conifers. Views from the home are terrific.
